Devotional: When Leadership Loses Sight of God
Scripture:
“Eli’s sons were scoundrels; they had no regard for the Lord.” — 1 Samuel 2:12 (NIV)
💔 The Weight of Spiritual Responsibility
Hophni and Phinehas abused their priestly roles, dishonoring God and manipulating people. Though their title remained, their hearts were far from God. In the New Testament, we’re reminded, “Let not many of you become teachers…” because leaders are held to stricter judgment (James 3:1).
Eli’s Silence Was Complicity
God rebuked Eli for honoring his sons more than God (1 Samuel 2:29).
Spiritual compromise in leadership opens the door to corruption.
As believers under the New Covenant, we are called to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15) and restore one another in humility (Galatians 6:1).
Reflect:
• Am I living in a way that reflects reverence for God?
• Do I address sin with truth and grace?
• Does my calling match my character?
Jesus, Our Faithful High Priest
Where Eli’s house failed, Jesus prevails. He is the faithful priest who intercedes for us (Hebrews 7:25-26), and through Him, we are called a royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9)—holy, set apart, and responsible.
Prayer
Lord, cleanse my motives. Refine my heart.
Make my life a reflection of Your holiness and not just a display of spiritual activity.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Key Reminder:
God is still looking for faithful priests—let your heart qualify you, not just your title.
